Christmas is almost here. There’s a soon-to-be cooked turkey in my fridge, fresh paint on the walls, and a fire blazing in the family room.
I love it.
For some, this time of year is filled with mixed emotions of a loved one’s passing, whether it was yesterday or a decade ago.
Maybe you feel a longing for a brave solider who is missing yet another holiday.
Perhaps this time of year is about reuniting, warm hugs, good food, and good conversation.
I have experienced all of these at some point in my life.
In spite of all of this, while sitting at your Christmas dinner table this week, remember to enjoy being in the moment.
And I mean, really be in the moment.
Honor those missing from your table by not wasting a single minute.
Savor great food. Open gifts. Tell stories about what happened way-back-when. Laugh a lot. Hug often. Don’t let the day go by without saying “I love you.” Most of all, remember that it’s all about Jesus.
This is what Christmas dinner is about.
So my friend, remember and miss. But, don’t forget to also be present for those who are sitting in front of you. Love others and love your Lord God.
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. ~Isaiah 9:6
